When you look at the Cleveland Browns roster heading into 2023 training camp, it's easy to see why fans would be brimming with excitement. The Browns have so many key pieces of a championship roster solidified, including players at quarterback, edge, cornerback, wide receiver, and along the offensive line.

But what players are the true building blocks for the future of this franchise? Some players on this Cleveland Browns roster are perfect for the here and now, but some players will determine whether or not this team remains in a competitive window for the next five or so years.

Which players are they?

Top 5 certified building blocks on the Cleveland Browns roster in 2023

1. Myles Garrett, EDGE

At this point, we're all just waiting for the inevitable of Myles Garrett receiving enough national publicity and hype to possibly win Defensive MVP of the entire NFL. Garrett is, of course, one of the most dominant players in the league regardless of position, and he's proven consistency with that dominance through his first six NFL seasons.

Garrett averages 16 sacks per 17 games played over the last three seasons. He has 77 QB hits in that timeframe as well as 45 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, and 122 total QB pressures.

When you talk about elite building blocks off the edge in the NFL, you can argue Myles Garrett over players like Nick Bosa, or really anyone else. And shockingly, he won't turn 28 until late in the 2023 season.
