Shaun Smith: Chad Johnson Punched Marvin Lewis

Not surprisingly, the videos have been taken off YouTube, but Browns defensive tackle Shaun Smith made some interesting comments on Monday night at a Browns Backers meeting in Central Maryland. Smith was once a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, and played in the team’s only playoff game in the Marvin Lewis era. But that doesn’t matter. What does matter is this, regarding wide receiver Chad Johnson:

"“He swung on Marvin. . . . [Johnson] shattered the training room glass. . . . He swung on Marvin [and] hit Marvin in the eye. . . . Then he tried to swing on wide receivers coach Hue Jackson, who’s now in Baltimore.”"

So, Shaun Smith is able to confirm everyone’s basic assumptions: Ocho Cinco is absolutely insane, a cancer to any team, and a coach abuser (kind of a new thought, but it fits him well). If this is true, how could Marvin Lewis not discipline Johnson for allegedly punching him in the face? I still have trouble grasping the fact that nothing was done about this. It could have been “behind closed doors,” but that obviously accomplished nothing, as Johnson has only regressed into further insanity. It’s a very odd situation, with just a tinge of some potential serious consequences. This obviously says a lot about what kind of team Lewis is running over in Cincinnati. All is not well in Bungleland, and that is glorious. But geez, I feel bad for the guy.

Keep in mind, this is what happened only from the eyes of Shaun Smith. As time goes on, other players might open up about the situation, but one thinks this should be the final reason to simply cut ties with Johnson. Thanks to Shaun Smith for adding fuel to the this rivalry’s fire. And for proving Marvin Lewis apparently has no idea how to react to any situation in his life.
