In his press conference today (Tuesday), head coach Rob Chudzinski said that Jabaal Sheard would not practice Tuesday, but had not been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Bills.  He said Sheard is recovering well from the sprained knee and they will see how he is on Thursday.  In other words, he is probably not playing and they really hope he can be back for the Lions after another week and a half.

Chud has not announced who the second quarterback will be on Thursday; indicated he will see how Brandon Weeden looks in practice this week.

Chud was extremely complementary of Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel and said the the team liked him before the draft, but said that Barkevious Mingo was their guy.  Yes, Manuel reminded Chud of Cam Newton with his skill set and size.

Whenever he is asked about Brian Hoyer, Chud emphasizes his ability to make plays, make quick decisions and his competitiveness.  He also said that would come out wherever he was on the depth chart.

Chud also said that Billy Cundiff was kicking hurt and that he had all of the faith in the world in him as a kicker.  Cundiff did not kick on Monday but is expected to kick on Tursday.

When asked about newly acquired running back Fozzy Whittaker, Chud said he was a good kick returner and will see what he can do.   Whittaker was completing physical as the press conference was happening.
