The Cleveland Browns take on the Atlanta Falcons today in a big game for both teams. The Browns are 6 – 4 and just out of the AFC North and Wild Card spots. The Falcons, at 4 – 6, are tied for first place in the bad NFC South. Both teams need a win today so records are out the window.

Can the Browns run the ball and stop the run while making plays with Josh Gordon and somehow stopping the Falcons passing game?

We start with notes from the 1st Quarter of Browns Vs Falcons:

  • Falcons convert 3rd and long to Roddy White.
    • Good coverage but no pressure leads to the long completion.
    • Jim Leonhard was in position to intercept the ball but White dove in front to make the catch.
  • Next 3rd down pass is broken up.
    • Rookies Justin Gilbert and K’waun Williams make great play on the ball to break up the pass.
  • Josh Gordon trots out on to the field after fair catch on punt.
    • Gordon’s return is obviously huge.
  • First pass to Gordon is incomplete.
    • Perfectly thrown but Desmond Trufant does a great job of breaking up the deep ball.
  • Donte Whitner breaks perfectly on ball and breaks up the pass.
    • Third time Browns knew where ball was going.
    • If Whitner catches the INT, which he should have, it would be 6 points.
  • Matt Ryan connects with Julio Jones for a 25 yard touchdown pass.
    • Joe Haden can’t keep up with Jones and no underneath help in coverage.
    • The missed INT by Whitner is a 14 point swing.
  • Gordon gets his first reception on a shallow cross. 12 yard gain.
    • Gordon’s long strides make things seems so easy.
