The Cleveland Browns have signed undrafted free agent Chigbo Anunoby to add depth along the defensive line.

The Cleveland Browns, in their continued search for roster depth along the defensive line after losing Desmond Bryant to a season-ending injury, signed Chigbo Anunoby on Monday.

In a corresponding transaction to make room on the roster, the Browns released defensive lineman Kyle Rose, who had signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in May.

The team announced the move on its website.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Anunoby has been around the NFL, but has yet to make a team’s final roster. He was signed by the Indianapolis Colts in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Morehouse. In addition to the Colts practice squad, the 6-foot-3 and 316-pound Anunoby went through training camp in 2013 with the Washington Redskins and spent the 2014 season on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans.

He also spent time in training camp last season with the Minnesota Vikings.

He played two seasons at Morehouse, recording 93 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

According to a 2011 article from National Football Post looking at players during practice for the HBCU Bowl, Anunoby:

"had a very impressive performance Wednesday afternoon. The 6-4, 324-pound lineman was an absolute bear to move inside vs. the run. He fired off the football low, showcased natural anchor strength and the type of power/balance to extend his arms and fend off blocks inside. However, even more impressive was his overall ball awareness. The guy consistently was flowing toward the action and really did a nice job locating the ball quickly. As a pass rusher he also displayed a little more short-area quickness than you would expect for a guy his size, doing a nice job a couple of times working an arm over and side stepping a block off the ball, while also pushing the pocket as a bull rusher."

"Now, he’s never going to be a “plus” pass rusher in the NFL. However, he’s a strong, long kid with a really well-proportioned frame who can anchor inside and certainly has the talent to get plenty of looks from both 34 and 43 teams as a developmental big body."

The fact that Anunoby spent the entire 2014 season with the Titans means the defensive coordinator Ray Horton should be somewhat familiar with him, and Anunoby should be familiar with Horton’s particular brand of defense.
