The Cleveland Browns signed wide receiver Josh Boyce on Sunday, who was recently released by the Indianapolis Colts.

The Cleveland Browns continue to tinker with their roster as the club signed wide receiver Josh Boyce on Sunday.

In a corresponding transaction, the team placed wide receiver Dennis Parks on the waived/injured list.

The team announced the moves on its website.

The 5-foot-11 and 205-pound Boyce was selected in the fourth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He appeared in nine games for the Patriots that season, finishing with nine receptions for 121 yards. He appeared in one game with New England in 2014, but did not register a stat.

He most recently spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, but was released on Aug. 16 despite reportedly being in the running for the team’s fourth wide receiver position. The Colts made the decision because head coach Chuck Pagano reportedly wants a veteran presence on the position group, which is the opposite of the approach the Browns are currently taking.

Boyce is experienced with playing in a high-scoring offense from his college days at TCU. In three seasons with the Horned Frogs, he totaled 161 receptions for 2,535 yards and 22 touchdowns. He finished his collegiate career as the program’s leader in career touchdown receptions, was second in receiving yards and third in receptions.

He was also a teammate of quarterback Robert Griffin III in high school.

Heading into the 2013 draft, Boyce was considered a player that has:

"average height and maxed-out frame won’t wow scouts, but the quickness and strength that made him a playmaker at the college level makes him a potentially dangerous weapon in the slot, with the possibility of being able to line up on the outside."

The Browns already have an abundance of young wide receivers, so it is a bit surprising to see them add another one.

Corey Coleman and Andrew Hawkins have yet to play in the preseason while dealing with a hamstring injury, and Josh Gordon needs to get in playing time before his four-game suspension starts.

In addition, the rookie trio of Rashard Higgins (28 total offensive plays). Jordan Payton (11) and Ricardo Louis (six) all need as much work as possible before the season opens on Sept. 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles. (h/t to Dawgs By Nature for the snap counts.)

That doesn’t leave much time for Boyce to show the coaching staff what he can do.
