As another Super Bowl is played, Cleveland Browns fans wonder when it will be their turn to have some rooting interest in the month of February.

Football fans in Cleveland are gearing up to watch a football game today, although the Cleveland Browns are nowhere near involved.

Super Bowl 51 takes place today as the New England Patriots take on the Atlanta Falcons, offering Browns fans a glimpse at what should be one of the best games of the entire NFL season. It will be in stark contrast to the 16 games played by the Browns in 2016.

The Super Bowl is an annual reminder of how far away the Browns are not just from being Super Bowl champions, but from being a playoff team. The 2016 Browns considered the Week 16 win over the San Diego Chargers to be their own personal Super Bowl, although getting to 1-14 is nothing to be too excited about.

The constant losing has just as much to do with the upper levels of the organization as it does with the players on the field, which is why the new commitment to the current front office is refreshing. That is, the alleged commitment.

It would be hard to imagine Jimmy Haslam starting over any time soon, but anything can happen as this is the Browns we are talking about. But for now, the current plan in place seems to be off to a solid start, even if the record in 2016 was less than ideal.

The Browns are in position to add some talented players to the roster through the NFL Draft, given the team doesn’t panic and trade either of the two first-round picks.

This doesn’t mean the team is on a fast track to a Super Bowl appearance, but these baby steps will help the team be somewhat competitive after a decade of losing records.

Even a playoff berth would be a welcome change after years of watching other cities’ fans rejoice in January, holding off the draft talk in Cleveland until Spring.

The Browns are not heading to the Super Bowl in the near future, but the current process in place should have the team trending in an upward direction. Whether that means three wins or seven, any improvement will be welcomed in 2017.
