With the 38th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected Oregon safety T.J. Ward. There are two things that are surprising about this pick:
1) Another safety that goes by the name of Taylor Mays was still on the board when the Browns made this pick. Some think that Ward might be a bit of a reach, but what does that say about Mays?
2) Some will be upset that the Browns passed on the two big quarterbacks – Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy – but one also can’t argue with the attempt to shore up the beleaguered secondary. Seeing McCoy in a Browns uniform would have been nice, but I’ll wait and see what the Browns do with those three third-round picks. With the way these quarterbacks are slipping, I wonder if the Browns could trade back into the second round.
