Cleveland Browns Lose Chance to Sign CB Nate Clements
Cornerback Eric Wright’s departure to the Detroit Lions has left the Browns thin at the position. Despite having two starters, including budding star Joe Haden, there isn’t much beyond that.
This thrust the team into the search for a replacement, and cornerback Nate Clements appeared to be the perfect fit. Not only is he a Shaker Heights native, but Clements played ball at the Ohio State University, which would make playing for the Browns a natural choice.
Clements will indeed be returning to Ohio, just not for the Browns. Instead, he has agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals, filling the void left by the departure of Johnathan Joseph.
This still leaves the Browns in the hunt for another cornerback with a shrinking market for top-flight players. Luckily, they are currently only in need of a third cornerback, and could find something viable once teams start making more veteran cuts. If not, the Browns could rely on the services of Coye Francies or rookies Buster Skrine and Eric Hagg
