Head Coach Rob Chudzinski came out today and officially announced that Barkevious Mingo will be out for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with the bruised lung. While Mingo has made significant progress in his recover as he was sprinting, he was not yet engaging in full contact. Reports had suggested that the goal was for Mingo to be able to return for week two against the Baltimore Ravens, so with this news, that is what the Browns are hoping for at this point. They will need him.
The Ravens were drubbed by the Denver Broncos in the opening game of the season last night, so the Ravens have a week and a half to prepare to play the Browns in Baltimore and just angrier and angrier. Mingo would be a big addition to their hopes of winning that game.
Also of note, Athyba Rubin and Buster Skrine have both been deemed ‘questionable’ for this week’s game. Rubin is the newest addition to the injury list and while they have depth along the defensive line, would certainly be missed this week. If Skrine cannot go, Chris Owens steps in as the starter. It is important for the Browns to get a win this week if they want to have a successful season, so not having Mingo will hurt but is survivable, but potentially losing Rubin and Skrine could be a real issue for a team relying heavily on their defense.
