There had been multiple reports that Al Golden had made the decision to leave Miami(FL) and gone back to his alma mater Penn State. Those reports jumped the gun, that did not actually happen and now, Golden has said he is staying with in Coral Gables. Golden was one of three candidates connected to Penn State which also included now former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak and current head coach of Vanderbilt, James Franklin.
Franklin is interviewing in Happy Valley the Nittany Lions job if reports are to be believed. If Franklin takes that job that is now open with Golden returning to Miami, he obviously cannot take the job with the Cleveland Browns.
Franklin is coming off of a win in the BBCA Compass Bowl and he has been linked to a number of jobs. It has come out that he had interviewed for the Houston Texans job before they went with former Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien, is reportedly interviewing with the Nittany Lions today and has requests from the Browns and Washington to interview him in the future. There has also been a lot of people connecting dots that the Titans would have interest in Franklin now that they have an opening. Both Vanderbilt and the Titans are in Nashville, so he would not even have to move.
There has no indication what Franklin wants to do, but everyone at least wants a chance to talk to the up and coming Commodore coach.
