Cleveland Browns wide receiver Davone Bess has been arrested in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and is charged for assaulting an office/fire fighter. He was picked up by law enforcement at the Ft. Lauderdale airport. The past football year has been varying levels of disastrous for Bess and this is the worst of it to this point.
After what seemed to be a smart trade to acquire the receiver from the Miami Dolphins for about 50 spots in the NFL Draft last year, a move called a steal by many critics, Bess has dropped the ball on and off of the field. Although difficult to prove, Bess has taken multiple pictures and videos from his instagram account that gave the appearance he was smoking marijuana either in the picture or was acting as he had just done so recently.
Bess ended his season two games early for personal reasons, which have not been explained to this point. The local media knows, but out of respect for Bess in what is apparently an extremely serious situation with his family, they have not divulged what they know. It will be interesting to see if that changes in light of the events of the past two weeks. Considering what Bess has overcome in his life to get to college and the NFL, the hope is that he does not throw it all away with this type of behavior and he gets the help he needs. The Browns have only said they are gathering information on the situation, but have not commented about any action they might take.
