According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the Browns are attempting to hire Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator as the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Seems as though, they are not waiting on another interview with Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and are moving in on Pettine.
After reading Rapoport’s tweet, it is very safe to assume that this is the real deal and baring any late unforseen circumstances, Pettine will indeed be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
The next question then does become, which coaches out there now will be the best fit for the offensive coordinator job?
Mike Munchak is off the list, after he was hired earlier today as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach. A couple of other names that have been mentioned are newly fired Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and former Texans head coach Gary Kubiak.
It will definitely be interesting to see how this hire develops, in terms of when it happens today, and what Pettine is going to have to say about who he is actively seeking as his coordinators.
On the other hand, it is going to be very interesting to hear how Haslam and company explain to the media and fans, as to why Pettine became the favorite, and why he is the guy to get the Browns on track and into the playoffs…
