According to Ed Werder of ESPN, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator may stay this year with Cowboys regardless of what happens with Scott Linehan. Should the Cowboys go ahead and hire Linehan, it would mean that they have three coaches on staff that have experience calling the plays and Linehan would be the latest to do it for the Cowboys.
Head coach Jason Garrett had been calling the plays but had that responsibility taken away and given to Callahan. Callahan may stay the offensive coordinator, but Linehan would be calling the plays.
Callahan had been linked to the Cleveland Browns with the assumption that Linehan would be coming in to replace Callahan. As a result, the Browns might like Callahan to be their offensive coordinator. Callahan has been a head coach, which is something Mike Pettine says he would like to have somewhere on staff.
At this point, it is unclear if the Browns actually ever had an interest in Callahan and the media was merely connecting the dots, but if this report holds true, it would take Callahan out of the conversation.
