According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Cleveland Browns and head coach Mike Pettine have hired former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. It is not yet known whether he has been hired for the offensive coordinator position or as the quarterbacks coach.
Loggains is reputed for his work with the quarterback position and had been seeing success with Jake Locker with the Titans, but injuries have hurt his progress. The team looked poised to at least make a push for a possible wildcard berth before Locker went down with a hip injury. Loggains also worked with Ryan Fitzpatrick, who plays a completely different style than Locker.
If Loggains is the quarterbacks coach, the Browns could still hire either Kyle Shanahan or Mike DeFilippo to be their offensive coordinator; the other two candidates they have reportedly been interviewed.
Loggains is 33 years old which has fit in with the trend of youth Pettine has hired. There are still a number of open slots available on the offensive side of the ball at this point.
