Browns have moved on from Kyle Shanahan? Possibly according to Ian Rapoport

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Cleveland Browns have hired Dowell Loggains to be their offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach.  If it is the quarterbacks coach, they still need an offensive coordinator under Mike Pettine.  That coordinator may not be Kyle Shanahan.  And if that is the case, it could mean the Browns would go with Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach Mike DeFilippo or a yet unnamed candidate.

Shanahan was expected to go to the Baltimore Ravens and be reunited with Gary Kubiak, whom he was the offensive coordinator for with the Houston Texans.  That did not happen and it is not clear why, possibly because he wanted a bigger job.

That bigger job may not be with the Browns and if not, he is running out of options for this season quickly.  According to Rapoport, the interview “did not exactly go as planned” and he is a long shot for the job.

On the other hand, if Loggains is the quarterbacks coach and DeFilippo were the offensive coordinator, Loggains would actually have more experience as a play caller as he did it for the Titans.  DeFilippo’s one year as a coordinator was in 2011 with the San Jose State Spartans.
