According to a report from Outside the Lines of ESPN, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon could be facing a year long suspension for a positive drug test for marijuana. When reached for comment, Gordon said: “That’s something you’re going to have to talk to [agent] Drew Rosenhaus about. I really don’t know anything about it.” Rosenhaus refused to comment, but simply said the report was “not true”.
Gordon was suspended without pay for a couple of games last season due to a positive drug test and has not gone a year dating back to high school without a drug related issue. The Browns took a calculated risk in keeping Gordon and not trading him, which led to the receiver having the best season of any receiver in the NFL last year. This could prove to have backfired if this proves to be true.
This reports less than 24 hours after the Browns became the center of attention for drafting Johnny Manziel, the quarterback from Texas A&M, who at one point, Gordon had pointed out by name as someone he wanted the team to draft. While this is merely a report, OTL’s track record is fantastic while Gordon has proven anything but reliable and it takes the winds out of the Browns’ sails just as they were feeling good about themselves, selling 2300 season tickets since the pick was announced.
