The Cleveland Browns made their pick in the 3rd round at pick 71, taking weak side linebacker Chris Kirksey from Iowa. While he was relatively a hidden gem because of the struggles of the Hawkeye program, he was great on tape. He can fly around and play the run, help in coverage and addresses a few areas of concern.
For the Browns, Kirksey will slide inside and may start immediately next to Karlos Dansby. At worst, he will play a ton in coverage and for a team that wants to blitz, he can help in coverage or attack the quarterback. Here is my breakdown for Kirksey and he is someone that was outstanding at the Reese’s Senior Bowl as well as on tape.
The Browns, unless they make a trade back up, are not scheduled to pick until tomorrow in the fourth round. Combined with Joel Bitonio, the Browns got two huge players that should start immediately. The wide receiver is hanging out there like a sore thumb, but the Browns have attacked value and there are still good receivers available.
