The Cleveland Browns and cornerback Joe Haden have agreed to a contract extension that lasts through 2019. Ray Farmer and the Browns had made it a high priority to retain Haden in the long term as well as Alex Mack. Mack was done, so Haden was the next step. Now, the Browns keep their top corner in the fold a significant amount of time at what is likely going to be top dollar.
The financial details of the contract have not been released, but it stands to reason Haden will get average in excess of $10 million per year. And as with most contracts, while the deal says it lasts until 2019, few contracts ever do and there will be a renegotiation somewhere along the line from one side or the other.
After the NFL Draft and the Josh Gordon news, the Haden news gives the team and fans a much needed boost and reason to feel good about where the team is going. Along with Mack and Joe Thomas, the Browns now have three homegrown players in the fold for an extended period of time.
