With the NFL Draft over and the main flurry of undrafted free agents largely claimed, this is the time of year when scouting contracts end for NFL teams.  And while Ray Farmer was in the front office with Joe Banner and Mike Lombardi, he has a different viewpoint on who he wants helping him in addition to the fact that some employees may have wanted to go elsewhere.

The Cleveland Browns have some scouts leaving, but did make some news with the announcement that they will name Morocco Brown the Vice President of Player Personnel.  Brown had been working for the Washington Redskins for the past six years as Director of Pro Personnel, so he is familiar with Kyle Shanahan.  Before Washington, he spent seven years working as the Assistant Director of Pro Personnel for the Chicago Bears.  All of these titles sound roughly the same but each step has been a promotion.

Brown did interview for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager this past season but was ultimately passed over for the job.  This was the job that Lombardi was initially given when he was hired under Banner.  Brown will be one of Farmer’s top guys in helping him with the NFL Draft as well as scouting both opponents and the league in general as it pertains to potential free agents.
