Roster Moves: Browns Place Two on IR
The Cleveland Browns claimed two offensive linemen off of waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday. Those moves combined with the roster cuts yesterday meant the Browns had 3 players they need to make roster moves on to get down the required number by today at 4. They only have 1 left after placing Michael Bowie and Darius Eubanks on IR today:
Bowie is the offensive lineman we talked about this morning that was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. Bowie was injured when the reigning champs waived him but the Browns still pounced. Reportedly Seahawks officials were upset that the Browns broke an unwritten rule about claiming other teams’ injured players when waived. The Browns obviously didn’t get the note, neither did 3 other teams that put in claims for Bowie.
Bowie started 8 games last year at right tackle for the champs and was expected to compete for that spot this year as well. The Browns see long term potential for Bowie and were willing to take him off waivers knowing he would spend the year on the IR most likely. He had shoulder surgery and will rehab throughout the 2014 season. He will then likely compete with Mitchell Schwartz next year for the RT spot, especially as poorly as many believe Schwartz has played this off-season.

Eubanks is going into his second season and also has a shoulder injury. Eubanks was with the Browns last year for 9 games after coming off the practice squad. He wasn’t able to show much this pre-season but the Browns will work with him on rehab and see what they got from him next year. He is listed as a inside linebacker but coach Mike Pettine likes to move his players around so he could get time at multiple spots in the future.
Expect one other roster move today before 4PM. It is likely the Browns will claim another player or two by tomorrow and have to make other roster moves to compensate. The bottom of the Browns roster will be a constant turnover this year as Pettine and GM Ray Farmer try to find the right mix.
Who do you think the last roster move will be?
