Connor Shaw Cut By Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns roster continues to come into focus. The Browns added Johnny Manziel, Connor Shaw and lastly Rex Grossman to join Brian Hoyer in the QB room. Shaw’s time with the team is over, for now as he joins the cuts made by the team today.

Shaw seems to be a perfect backup for Manziel long term, as both have a similar style of play. He could be added to the Browns Practice Squad if he makes it through waivers. Since Shaw went undrafted it is possible that he will indeed make it through waivers.

For the Browns they could still cut Grossman but all the talk from Hoyer and Manziel about how helpful Grossman has been since arriving likely keeps him around for awhile longer. Grossman is not a long term player for the Browns but has a ton of value. As seen during his time against the Bears in the last pre-season game, he can still make plays in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

Shaw looked okay in his time on the field but with a young Manziel and inexperienced Hoyer, didn’t have enough value to stay on the roster. Time on the practice squad could help Shaw develop into a solid backup in the league.

After the Redskins game it would of been fair to say that Shaw played the best. We didn’t expect him to make the 53 man in our predictions.

What are your thoughts on Shaw long term?
