Gray is another surprising cut as he was expected to be the starting fullback as camp started. Instead, due to fumbles and Ray Agnew playing well as a true fullback, Gray is off the team.
Gray was an exciting player prospect given his history as a QB and his athletic ability. Comparing Gray to Mike Sellers role as an H Back was a popular comparison that never materialized. Gray was moved from FB to tight end in the midst of the pre-season games. That was the first sign that Mike Pettine was not impressed by what he saw out of Gray.
The Browns have a few players still at TE including star Jordan Cameron, Jim Dray and Gary Barnidge. Gray was brought in by Ray Farmer and Pettine and is likely to stay. Barnidge roster spot isn’t shored up but looks better with Gray getting cut.
Are you surprised by Gray being cut?
