Johnny Manziel jersey sales fall during opening week of NFL season
By Jack Crosby
The Cleveland Browns opened up their season last week with an unfortunate loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, after nearly overcoming a 24-7 deficit. On person who was not in on the near-comeback was first-round draft pick, Johnny Manziel, as Brian Hoyer led the way the entire game under center.

Well, what also didn’t get much work that week were Manziel’s jersey sales nationwide and online, as his numbers fell to no. 5 overall, according to the the DICK’S Sporting Goods jersey report. As Manziel was standing on the sidelines for most of the preparation work for the Steelers for the week of September 2-8, his jersey sales were relegated to backup spot as well.
However, all is not completely bad in this department for Johnny Football.
Despite the drop in his jersey sales, Manziel is still the one with the most sales of his number since the NFL Draft, where the Browns traded up in the order to the no. 22 spot to grab him.
A big contributor to his overall sales seems to be one generation trying to pass the Johnny Football tradition down to the other, as the top two in his numbers are Men’s Manziel jerseys and Youth Manziel jerseys. In anticipation of him seeing some time on the field at some point, parents are obviously trying to have the kids prepared for what’s to come.
