Report: Armonty Bryant Likely Done for Season
The Cleveland Browns, and their fans, are still riding high from yesterday’s win but the injuries to both Alex Mack and Armonty Bryant are downers. We covered yesterday that it looks like Mack will be done for the season, now comes a report that Bryant likely is also gone for the year:
Bryant’s loss is huge for the Browns who are already down Phil Taylor for a few weeks and have struggled on the line even with all of their talent.
Bryant was a great get by Joe Banner in the 7th Round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He is thinner than the average 3-4 defensive end but plays with great leverage, long arms, strong hands and speed to make up for his lack of girth. He was considered the co-starter along with Taylor at the end of Training Camp.
Desmond Bryant was the lone starter left on the field when Armonty went out yesterday. Desmond has struggled with wrist and glute issues this season but seemed finally healthy yesterday. Ahtyba Rubin, the starting nose tackle, was also out yesterday.
With all of the D-Line injuries the Browns used Paul Kruger at DE yesterday. With Jabaal Sheard, Barkevious Mingo and Kruger the Browns have three outside linebackers who can fill in on the line, and all have experience doing so.

For the season these injuries will cause issues with both the talent and the depth on the team. The Browns have Jaccobi McDaniel and Calvin Barnett, though he is currently injured, as defensive linemen on the practice squad. One will likely get a call up to take Bryant’s place.
Mike Pettine will be responsible for figuring out how to scheme around the lost talent. Thankfully the next three games are against teams who have struggled some offensively. It should give Pettine time to figure out how to best handle the front 7.
For now the loss of Bryant and Mack is huge but the excitement for the team’s future hasn’t faltered.
