The Cleveland Browns are 3 – 2 and besides the Dallas Cowboys have been the talk of the NFL. This has become full blown after their destruction of the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Because of the on the field success fans for once are not focused on the upcoming NFL Draft but looking at 2015 NFL Mock Draft posts are still fun.
This year it will be especially true as the Browns not only have their own pick but also that of the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have surprised many, currently sitting at 3 – 3 but many expect them to struggle most of the season. A bad season by them and a playoff run by the Browns would make for a perfect season of thinking about the now and the future.
On to two 2015 NFL Mock Drafts that were recently posted by the good guys at CBS Sports:
"14. Cleveland Browns (from BUF) – OT Brandon Scherff, Iowa Starting right tackle Mitchell Schwartz has his ups and downs and Scherff would make sense as his replacement if he struggles in 2014. But regardless of Schwartz’s performance, Scherff offers versatile depth both at tackle and guard."
Scherff has been seen as a Top 5, 10 pick by many for sometime. His injury could drop him a bit now but the Browns would be very lucky to get their hands on him this late. Scherff can play inside and outside, giving the Browns possibly the most dominant offensive line in the NFL, if they are not already. The Browns will have to be careful about putting so many resources in to one position unit. If they drafted Scherff they would have a starting five of all 1st or 2nd round picks. A defensive lineman seems like the way to go here but Ray Farmer has proven he won’t reach for need players.
"19. Cleveland Browns – WR Kevin White, West Virginia The Browns are lacking dynamic talent on the outside with Josh Gordon suspended and will likely consider a wide receiver in the first round next year. Cleveland is one of several teams that has shown interest in White, who has been immensely impressive so far in 2014."
The 6’3″ receiver could be a great fit with the Browns, with or without Gordon. White plays in an up tempo offense at WVU and has amassed almost 900 yards and 5 touchdowns this year. From the outside looking in the Browns are in need of a big receiver but Kyle Shanahan’s offenses historically have done well with one big outside guy and a bunch of little, precise route runners. Investing in the defense twice is far more likely than going offense with both picks. Two defensive linemen would not be shocking, as well as another linebacker and a safety.
