Jacobbi McDaniel Promoted, Tight End Waived

The Cleveland Browns have injury upon injury on their defensive line. They have placed Armonty Bryant on the season ending Injured Reserve and Phil Taylor and Billy Winn are out for today’s game. Sione Fua has been signed and now Jacobbi McDaniel has been promoted from the practice squad, with tight end Gerell Robinson being waived to make room:

Robinson was brought on the roster mostly as an insurance policy for Jordan Cameron. Now that he is shown he is healthy Robinson was expendable.

McDaniel was an undrafted rookie out of Florida State who impressed veteran teammates during Training Camp with his hustle and hardwork. Barkevious Mingo gave McDaniel a huge compliment after a pre-season game:

McDaniel has a chance to step in early and often to help the Browns stop the run. Ahtyba Rubin is questionable for today’s game leaving the team pretty bare up front. A good game from McDaniel could secure his place on the roster for the rest of the year, and maybe for years to come.

McDaniel is a similar player to Rubin in his all out hustle and effort. He is a player that fans will likely get behind as they seem him give everything he has to his team and to the fans. He is an excitable fun-loving youngster who engages with fans on Twitter, @JacobbiJustice.

His ability to hold the edge, stop the run and maybe make a play in the backfield today could define how Browns fans see him. The nerves are likely to be high so McDaniel has to make sure he plays within himself, and the system, instead of trying to do too much.
