Roster Moves: Browns Cut FB, Sign FB Kiero Small

The Cleveland Browns have made roster moves quickly following their loss to the previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars. The Browns cut Ray Agnew and signed Kiero Small off the practice squad:

Agnew has been targeted six times, which leads all Browns running backs, but only has two receptions.

Small was brought over from the Seattle Seahawks during final cut down time and is a load. While Agnew had value in the receiving game, Small is more of a brute in the run blocking game.

Bringing in a better blocker is more necessary now after the pitiful performance the right side of the offensive line had on Sunday. Paul McQuistan was blocked into the backfield often causing problems in the run and pass game. Small may be able to help get some push for the Browns.

Small was drafted in the seventh round by the Seahawks after a stellar 2 year career with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Small’s size, 5’8″ 245 pounds, allows him to get lower than those he is blocking and push them back. He has shown some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield catching 19 balls for 128 yards his senior season.

Here is a small example of a Small block:

Here is a good TV spot about Small, highlighting that he is most known for breaking face masks:
