Charles Sims Activated; To Face Browns On Sunday

The Cleveland Browns game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be a chance for the Bucs to start to get a look at their future. They traded starting safety Mark Barron as well as a reserve veteran linebacker. Now they have activated Charles Sims for tomorrow’s game:

The Bucs like Sims, one of the reasons they had explored trading Doug Martin at the trade deadline. If he is healthy enough to play, expect him to get around 10 carries. Sim, a 3rd round pick is a taller, leaner back out of West Virginia. Sims actually graduated from the University of Houston and then transferred to WV for his senior season of eligibility. Sims was drafted 25 picks ahead of Browns rookie Terrance West.

The transfer paid off, much like Russell Wilson‘s similar experience at NC State then Wisconsin. At WVU Sim ran for 1,095 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 45 passes for over 400 yards and another 3 touchdowns.

Sims has been hurt but with Martin likely out of this game and former Browns back Bobby Rainey likely getting the start, Sims could be given a chance to prove that he is worth all the hype the Bucs have placed on him. Sims fractured ankle is an extremely tough injury to return from but if he is ready Sims ability in the pass, as well as the running, game could be huge for the Bucs.

The Browns have struggled with smaller, faster backs (remembering the Denard Robinson game is not fun). The combination of Rainey and Sims fit the smaller (Rainey) and faster (both) problems the Browns have had.

Anyone coming off injury tends to struggle, and has to worry about hamstring injuries, yet Sims debut could cause huge problems for the Browns. Something for Bucs fans to get excited about.
