Report: Browns Brass Want to See Johnny Manziel Play
The Cleveland Browns Thursday Night Football game, their 9th of the season, is about to kickoff yet the focus on Johnny Manziel continues. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network several of the Browns brass want to see Manziel play:
"Several key members of the organization are “starting to get antsy,” Rapoport reported, via a team source, because they want to see Johnny Manziel play."
That note is among their article related to Brian Hoyer. They say that the next three games is a referendum on Hoyer’s future. If he plays well and the team wins, staying in the playoff race, then the team will look to sign him to a contract extension. If he struggles then the team will look to play Johnny Manziel.
If, and it is a big if, this report is true it raises huge flags about the Browns current administration. The results of a couple games should not decide the future of the most important position on the team.
Tonight is a great example. Hoyer will be without starting center (Alex Mack) and top three pass catchers (Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron and Andrew Hawkins) will have a tough time getting the offense moving. Yet games like tonight could decide the next few years who is starting at QB?

Ridiculous.
Not many outside of the organization would say that they are comfortable declaring Hoyer a long term starter. The same amount of people are comfortable stating that Johnny Manziel will develop into a starting level QB in Cleveland. Making such a large decision off of the next three games is short sighted.
Likely Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer know whether or not Hoyer can fill the QB spot that has been a revolving door. They also have information whether Manziel has made strides during his first season or needs a few years to develop the needed skills.
