Josh Cribbs Signs with Colts

The Cleveland Browns have had trouble fielding punts. It led some to ask about the possiblity of signing Josh Cribbs. GM Ray Farmer stated no intention of bringing back the popular returner but the Indianapolis Colts worked him out last week and today signed him to a contract:

Cribbs joins a bunch of ex-Browns in Indiana. The Colts have Trent Richardson, a former Browns first round bust, D’Qwell Jackson, the former long time leader of the defense, and Rob Chudzinski, former one year head coach of the Browns, all on the payroll.

Some reports believe that Ben Tate, just released by the Browns, could solve some of the Colts running back problems as well.

Even if the Colts don’t claim or sign Tate, the Browns and Colts December 7th match up will be interesting. The Browns have struggled returning punts but Farmer has shown little interest in changing up their roster. Cribbs was a popular choice among some media and fans. With Josh Gordon returning perhaps Taylor Gabriel will be freed up from his offensive duties to field punts as well.

Browns history says that Cribbs could have a big game against his former team. Irony would be a failed Browns punt return, with Cribbs either causing or recovering the fumble, and/or Cribbs with a huge return against his former team.

Time will tell is Farmer or the Colts made the right choice. That time could be just a few weeks away when the two teams face off.

What do you think about Josh Cribbs signing with the Colts, and the Browns showing no interest?
