Thankful for Browns: Past, Present and Future

Today is Thanksgiving. A great American holiday.

For some this is a day that is all about eating a lot of food. For some today is all about football. Others it is all about family. For some it is just a day off or a day to shop, now that Black Friday is now starting days in advance.

No matter what we hope that you are enjoying the day. We hope that you are finding plenty of things to be thankful for. We hope that our coverage of our beloved Cleveland Browns is something you are thankful for, and we plan to give you more reasons for that to be true.

Here are things we are thankful for with the Browns: Past, Present and Future.

Past

Every week I get to pull on my Jim Brown jersey and know that one of, or the, greatest of all time played for our team. I am thankful for Bernie Kosar, Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner, Brian Brennan, Webster Slaughter, Eric Metcalf, Ozzie Newsome and many many others. I’m even grateful for that really exciting season with Derek Anderson, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow, even though they didn’t make the playoffs.

Mostly I am thankful for the history of the fans that I get to be a part of. The Dawg Pound has set a high standard for what it means to be a Browns fan. I love that I find Browns fans everywhere I go, whether winning or losing. Other fan bases wax and wane their support. Jerseys, shirts and hats never get shoved in the back of a Browns fan’s closet.

Present

The Browns are competitive going into Week 13. Yep it has been so long since that has happened I am overly excited about it. I am thankful for Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer who I trust far more than anyone in those positions in recent years. I love the direction of this team.

It is also nice to have a Browns team that plays like the Browns are supposed to. We run the ball, use play action passing and want to play great defense. Many can say that this is a passing league but I look forward to the Browns proving that defense and running can still win, much like the Seahawks did last season.

Future

Not only is this team competing this year but they are setup to win moving forward. We are winning with a ton of young players. There are very few established veterans starting for this team. Those that are; Donte Whitner, Karlos Dansby, Paul Kruger and Joe Thomas, are making a high impact. Besides them the Browns are setup with a lot of talented youth.

They also have a ton of draft picks next season to bolster the team. Farmer could use those to get high level players by trading up, can add even more future assets and many other creative ways to improve the team. Two first, two fourth and two sixth rounders, as well as one in every other round will be huge.

The Browns cap situation is interesting but also something I am thankful for. While a ton of players are up for contracts the Browns are in position not to have to lose them. They may chose to move on from a few free agents but they have the cap to add players from other teams. The future of the Browns is bright.
