Browns Vs Colts: Behind Enemy Lines

As the Cleveland Browns look to take on the Indianapolis Colts we go Behind Enemy Lines to give you the best Browns Vs Colts coverage we can.

We connected with Horseshoe Heroes to learn more about the Colts, what the Browns are in for and their prediction on the game. Here is what they had to say:

  1. How will the Colts defend Josh Gordon with Vontae Davis out?

They’ll have to hope that Greg Toler is up to the task of stopping him one-on-one when he lines up to the right. Expect the Colts to use different defenders on Gordon and likely a safety over the top as well.

Without Davis, the hope of isolating Gordon is gone so the pass rush will have to disrupt Hoyer and hope he makes a mistake. If the Colts can’t get any pressure, then the Browns will be able to pick apart the secondary.

  1. D’Qwell Jackson always was loved by fans but analytics showed most of his tackles were down the field 3 or 4 yards, not impactful. How has he been this season and how do fans see him?

He’s been one of the worst defenders on the Colts roster. Pro Football Focus has him as the lowest graded player on defense. Jackson has struggled to tackle, track down the ball carrier, and is terrible in coverage.

He’s clearly a fan favorite in some circles as he was the only Colt defender to show up on the Pro Bowl voting, despite Davis’ All-Pro season. The fans I’ve spoken with don’t like him and view him as another slow, washed up former Brown’s player like Trent Richardson (Josh Cribbs is the exception through two weeks).

  1. Who loses snaps if Dwayne Allen plays, which looks very likely, is it Hakeem Nicks, Donte Moncrief, Coby Fleener or less use of running backs?

Allen is instrumental in the run game and is easily one of the team’s best blockers. Nicks has already taken a back seat to Moncrief and the Colts love two tight end sets. With the Browns struggling against the run, I expect the Colts will want to pound the ball. That probably means less Moncrief overall, but Fleener is a terrible blocker.

If Allen is truly 100-percent, then its likely you’ll see a combination of Moncrief and Fleener getting less reps as Nicks has shown little to no value on the field.

  1. The Colts have lost 4 games. What are common denominators in those losses that the Browns could exploit?

Facing three of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and one of the best team’s in the NFL. The Colts lost to Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger on the road, both of whom picked the team apart. Tom Brady, and more importantly Bill Belichick, exploited the Colts run defense and dominated them on the ground.

And finally, the Eagles managed to escape Indy with a win due in large part to Darren Sproles and a bad non-call by the officials.

The Colts have dominated the weak teams in the NFL and built their record on top of the AFC South, which is almost as bad as the NFC South.

  1. What do you think happens Sunday, who wins and why?

I believe that the Colts win a tight game that actually turns into a bit of a shootout. Even with Hoyer’s recent struggles, he’ll be able to find open receiver against the likes of Josh Gordy and Darius Butler. That said, the Browns haven’t faced an offense like the Colts and Andrew Luck is on fire.

Colts win a close game.
