Trent Richardson Dawg’d by Plain Dealer Cartoon
Trent Richardson returns today to face the Cleveland Browns. Not much has been written about his return, much more about Josh Cribbs, because not much needs to be written about him. Richardson has struggled greatly in the NFL. So much so that the Cleveland Plain Dealer put a great cartoon in the paper:
You see very few Cleveland Browns fans were worried about TRich jumping into the Dawg Pound because very few Browns fans believed he would score a touchdown.
The cartoon does a great job of poking fun at Richardson’s yards per carry. Something he has struggled with since entering the NFL. Picture after picture from coaches cam shows Trent running either right into his offensive linemen or right into a defender when a hole was open one gap away. He dances in the hole and isn’t explosive enough when he does find some daylight, often turning 20 yard gains into 6 yard gains.

The Joe Banner reference is also hilarious. Great use of what has become fun for Browns fans. Banner has constantly pointed out things on Twitter that make him look good. Trading Richardson ranks near the top, with being a part of hiring Mike Pettine, as great moves by Banner. His other skills and decisions as CEO are questionable.
One storyline will be missed this weekend with Richardson. The first round pick the Browns got for their former #3 overall pick became Johnny Manziel. Manziel was expected to unseat Brian Hoyer a number of times for the starting QB job, including this week, but has not. So we miss the Manziel starting against the guy that was traded to get the pick storyline. Manziel could still play some today, either as a change up QB or if Hoyer struggles.
It will be interesting to see how Trent Richardson, Josh Cribbs and D’Qwell Jackson perform today against their old team. They could have extra motivation, which could lead to big things or trying too hard.
Great job Plain Dealer.
