Browns Rumor: Dwayne Bowe an Off Season Target
The Cleveland Browns have an obvious need at wide receiver. Fans may think it is bigger than the team does but expect Browns rumors to run rampant about a number of wide receivers during the off-season.
A new Browns rumor has the team interested in Dwayne Bowe of the Kansas City Chiefs:

There is a connection with the Browns as current GM Ray Farmer was in the front office of the Chiefs when they drafted Bowe. I followed up with McCord on her originally tweet to find out anything more, the reporter is hearing reports basically:

Interesting that she notes that they would be interested in Bowe in free agency as currently he is under contract with the Chiefs until after the ’16-17 season. His contract is rather high at over $10 million so getting cut would not be a surprise.
Bowe is 30 years old coming off a a decent but not great season. He caught 60 of the 96 targets thrown his way for 754 yards, a 12.6 yards per catch average. He didn’t have any touchdown receptions as the Chiefs famously didn’t have any receiver catch a TD. It can’t just be that Bowe was not able to score given the entire receiving corp struggled.
The Browns are not likely to trade for that contract but could decide to make a deal if Bowe agrees to a restructured contract. It wouldn’t cost the Browns much in way of trade compensation and they have enough cap space to make the move. Bowe could be cut and the Browns could go after him in free agency as well, but competition could cause them lose out.

Bowe would make a fine #2 receiver if Josh Gordon is kept and could fill the #1 role good enough to support a young receiver brought in to develop as the clubs’ #1.
Miles Austin was brought in as a veteran presence for the team last year and did a great job both on and off the field, given his small contract. Bowe hasn’t been known as a veteran leader, or the hardest worker, in his time in the NFL but age and experience helps everyone.
The team has needs at receiver so expect Browns rumors to focus on that position a lot this off-season.
