NFL Mock Draft: Move The Sticks 1.0, Browns All Offense
It is surely NFL Mock Draft season as Daniel Jeremiah, @MoveTheSticks, came out with his NFL Mock Draft 1.0 on NFL.com. Jeremiah tends to have a little different picks than most other Mockers. His drafts help us process interesting possibilities for our Cleveland Browns.
Yesterday we shared Mel Kiper’s NFL Mock Draft 1.0. He had the Browns adding an offensive tackle and a defensive tackle. Not exactly the type of draft that Browns fans love. They want their wide receiver, though some have started to hope the team addresses that need via free agency instead. With the way GM Ray Farmer has talked about the position it would be surprising for him to use a 1st round pick on one. Anything is possible and even likely so we won’t say never.
On to Move the Sticks NFL Mock Draft 1.0 and what he has the Cleveland Browns doing:
"PICK NO. 12 T.J. CLEMMINGS OT PITTSBURGHThis class has depth at the tackle position but lacks elite prospects. Clemmings isn’t sexy but he’ll be a solid, day one starter at right tackle."
Clemmings is a name that hasn’t come up much for the Browns so far. On the offensive line we have seen Andrus Peat and Ereck Flowers but Jeremiah has the Browns taking Clemmings at 12 as the highest picked offensive lineman.
Popular picks, or players, Danny Shelton, Amari Cooper, Kevin White and DeVante Parker are all off the board in Move the Sticks’ Mock. He has White going all the way up at #4 and Shelton up at #9. With the selection of Clemmings he has the Browns passing on Arick Armstead and Malcom Brown, two defensive linemen, along with Peat and Dorial Green-Beckham, offensive players that could intrigue, before their #19 pick.
"PICK NO. 19 DEVIN SMITH WR OHIO ST.Smith is a player that should continue to climb as we head into the postseason. He has elite play speed and the Browns need to get bigger at the position."
Wow! Browns fans get a wide receiver that they have been calling for and it is an Ohio State Buckeye, something many Browns fans call for often. We saw that Buckeye love as Browns fans called for the team to draft Cardale Jones, before he announced he was returning next year.
Smith is a surprising selection for the Browns. He was the Buckeyes big play receiver and caught a ton of touchdowns. The 6’1″ Massillon native has shot up internet draft boards with the Buckeyes Title run. Of his 33 catches 12 were for touchdowns. He almost accumulated 1,000 yards receiving with only those few receptions. His 28.2 yards per catch average is very impressive.

Yet does he present the Browns with a #1 type receiver that is both worthy of a first round pick and capable of replacing Josh Gordon? At OSU he ran a very limited route tree. Combine and individual workouts will be key for him. If he is able to show the agility and speed many hope, as well as the ability to cut precisely on every route, and he could end up drafted this high. If not he could fall down boards.
Jeremiah only has Devin Funchess drafted in the first round after the Browns second pick.
Alright Browns fans we finally found a national writer whose NFL Mock Draft has them going all offense. It might not be the players that you wanted but the positions might be exactly what you were hoping for.
