Marc Trestman, Browns OC Candidate, Hired by Ravens

The Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator position is still open but one high profile candidate is now off the board. Marc Trestman has been hired by the rival Baltimore Ravens as their offensive coordinator today:

Trestman was a name that many fans were excited about based on his history with the team and his reputation as a quarterback whisperer. Those fans will be extra upset that he went to Baltimore. Another concern, from a PR perspective, is that Bernie Kosar, close with Trestman, could follow him there in some capacity. There are a number of other coaches that the Browns have interviewed. If they had been blown away by Trestman they likely would have made an offer and we likely would have some information on it. Instead they continue their wide sweeping process and they could have someone in mind according to Ryan, a great person to follow on Twitter who has some inside information quite often:

That doesn’t mean they are a lock to get that guy they like more than Trestman, likely Oakland QB coach John DeFilippo, but it seems that some of their interviews could be an attempt to get more information about other possible hires to be made to a staff. Mike Martz or Al Saunders could provide a consultant, senior offensive assistant role while others could be hired as QB coach or another offensive assistant role.

Denver Broncos OC Adam Gase is also still out there, and could be running out of options. The Browns Head Coaching search focused on him for awhile last year and would not seem like a great fit with Mike Pettine. Jimmy Haslam, from his relationship with Peyton Manning, is known to like Gase very much.

Go ahead Browns fans, time to be upset that we “lost” Trestman to the Ravens. Same way many were upset with the Pettine hire last year but have now come around. The Browns do not seem in a hurry to make a hire but we expect something before the NFL Combine.

What are your feelings about Marc Trestman getting hired by the Ravens?
