Browns Rumor: Team Interested in CB Senquez Golson
A new Cleveland Browns rumor for you today, isn’t the off-season great, is that the team showed a ton of interest in cornerback Senquez Golson. The corner from Ole Miss reportedly spent a good amount of time with the Browns during the Senior Bowl, this according to Bleacher Report’s own Matt “Mr. NFL Draft Scout” Miller:
"The Cleveland Browns were very interested in Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson, and I’ve spoken with sources close to both sides who say they’ve spent a lot of time with him this week."
The Browns likely spent time with a number of players but would spend extra time with players they were interesting in or had questions about. Miller seemingly confirmed the Browns interest from both the team and the player, good reporting.
That the team showed interest in a cornerback will surprise some fans. The Browns spent a good amount of resources on the position last year. They signed Joe Haden to a big contract extension, drafted Justin Gilbert and Pierre Desir and signed K’Waun Williams and Robert Nelson as undrafted free agents.
Some might also connect the dots that having high level interest in a cornerback could mean the team has moved on from free agent to be Buster Skrine. In fact it could mean that the Browns feel they still have a need for more cornerbacks and could push to sign Skrine. We know that Head Coach Mike Pettine is a big fan of corners, likely believing you can never have too many.

As for Golson in particular, he would be an interesting fit for the Browns. He is a smaller corner, 5’9″, but plays with great speed and is aggressive. He was a unanimous All-American last season. He had 15 interceptions in his 4 year career at Ole Miss.
Pettine loves aggressive, seasoned cornerbacks and Golson would fit that. He doesn’t have the size that Pettine likes but Haden, Gilbert and Desir fill those roles. Golson does seem like he would be a good fit to replace Skrine, based on size and skill set, if the Browns let him walk.
We do know that this year will be interesting. So far a good sign is that things seem far more driven by Pettine and his coaching staff with GM Ray Farmer and his group of scouts doing work to fit things together. Teamwork always makes the dream work.
