Browns Rumor: Joker Phillips Likely WR Coach

The Cleveland Browns may have found their wide receiver’s coach in Joker Phillips according to Lane Adkins of the Orange and Brown Report:

Obviously his first name is bound to draw a ton of meme’s and jokes for a Browns team that has struggled to find a sense of consistency on the field and with their coaching staff. Phillips played two seasons in the NFL as well as time in the CFL.

He has spent years coaching in college since then. He was the offensive coordinator at Kentucky, after a number of wide receiver jobs at various D1 schools. Phillips took over as the head coach of Kentucky where he lasted 2 seasons. He returned as the wide receivers coach at Florida in 2012 where he stayed until he resigned last June when he was investigated for a recruiting violation. Reports say he was seen, and photographed, with a recruit during what is considered a dead period in college football.

Phillips is 51 years old with years of experience coaching the receivers position. The Browns have a lot of needs at that position and could use a solid coach with experience to lead them. Phillips has been most successful in that role.

The Browns still have not filled the quarterbacks coach, and according to Adkins, Steve Walsh was found not to be a fit:

So with Phillips reportedly on board the Browns have to fill the other vital position on their offensive staff. Adkins has been strong in his reporting so, while still a Browns rumor, we can likely take this to the bank.
