Darren McFadden is not exactly the player that many would look at in free agency but the Browns are in a unique position. They have three running backs that they like a lot, all rookies last year, in Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West and Glenn Winston. What they do not have is a veteran who can help stabilize and teach the young guys. A Miles Austin type.

McFadden has been hurt more often than he has been healthy but in Cleveland he wouldn’t be needed to carry the load. Instead the Browns can use Run DMC in a position to make a big impact in limited time. Basically the role that Ben Tate didn’t accept. McFadden has history with Browns OC John DeFilippo with their shared time with the Oakland Raiders.

For DMC he is not likely to find a place where he will be given the reigns as the lead back based on his injury history. Instead he comes to Cleveland based on his relationship with Flip, the Browns solid offensive line and a chance to rebuild his stock. The Browns are likely to overpay just a bit to fill their needs so McFadden gets a bit more money as well.

The Browns are likely to offer a 1 year, incentive laden deal with guarantees that make it worth it for DMC.

Other options: Ahmad Bradshaw, Knowshon Moreno, Ray Rice (last ditch scenario)
