Report: Browns Visit with WR, RB at Auburn

The Cleveland Browns are going to do their due diligence when it come to the NFL Draft. It is only a story after last year when Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel turned out to be dealing with difficult inner struggles. The Browns didn’t seem to do enough to get to know the players. The team has started out early visiting with Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates and running back Cameron Artis-Payne:

Sammie Coates is an interesting physical specimen but many have questions about his ability as an actually wide receiver. Coates is big and fast but struggles with route running and his hands. Not exactly the type of receiver that Mike Pettine would seem overly interested in, especially given that his physical traits will likely lead him to be drafted no later than the 2nd round. He also has had very limited success in college which would be a concern on the next level. Here is some film on Coates:

Cameron Artis-Payne is an interesting prospect in that he doesn’t measure overly well but seems to be good and just about everything. He is expected to be a mid-round pick next year. The Browns currently have three players coming off rookies seasons that they really like. Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West and Glenn Winston are the foundation for the future. What they are missing is a Change of Pace back who can be dynamic in the passing game and on third downs. Here is some film on CAP:

The Browns will be quite active in looking at players, having 10 picks in the draft will do that. This is especially true after getting somewhat burned in the 1st round last year. Everything else about last year’s draft went smooth, including great work in undrafted free agency, bringing in Crowell and Taylor Gabriel.

What do you think of either Coates or Artis-Payne for the Browns?
