The Cleveland Browns were rumored to have interest in Haloti Ngata if the defensive linemen became available from the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore reportedly had been working with Ngata to restructure his current deal which is set to pay Ngata $8.5 million in 2015 and has a $16 million salary-cap figure for the Ravens. Unable to workout a structured deal the Ravens made the move to trade Ngata today.

According to Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson Nagata is heading to the Detroit Lions:

And According to Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network it only cost the Lions a Mid-Round draft pick to acquire Ngata’s services.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Ngata is a pro-bowl caliber player that can fill and play the nose or defensive end positions, and likely would have moved in between those positions for the Browns. The Browns are in need of a two-gap run stopper and Ngata fit the bill for that need. The Browns were unable to get a chance at Ngata due to the trade, so its back to the drawing board for the Browns.

The good news for the Browns is that they will not have to face the Ngata with the Ravens. While they didn’t get the big defensive lineman, he is no longer going to be causing us trouble twice a year, every year. The Browns could be in on Dan Williams and we expect to possibly know something within the hour.
