Terrance Knighton Price Dropping for Browns?
The Cleveland Browns have shown a desire to upgrade their defensive Front 7 this off-season. Terrance Knighton is a player that has been linked to the Browns especially after Dan Williams was signed by the Oakland Raiders. While there are other players available that could fill the Browns big hole at nose tackle, Knighton (Pot Roast) is clearly the best option.
Knighton has reportedly visited the Raiders and Washington Redskins but has not signed. Knighton felt low balled by the Raiders and may not have impressed the Redskins. Today comes a report that some teams are worried about Knighton’s conditioning:
That as well as the fact that he is more likely to be a 2 down player and not an every down player, could cause Knighton’s price drop. What we know about the Browns is that they are not apt to pay players a great deal more than they value those players.
As a two down player, even though he fills a big need, Knighton is not likely a $9 million player to the Browns. The Raiders reportedly offered Knighton around $5 million could the Browns be interested in filling a huge need around $7 million or so?
With this report and the fact that Pot Roast is still on the market, his price tag is likely to drop in the next few days. While supply and demand can play a role, teams are filling their needs, and cap space, which could leave Knighton on the outside looking in. The fact that his old team, the Broncos, and his old coach, now the HC in Oakland, have both let him move on may be eye opening.
It also should create concern for the Browns. Oakland moved on to an older player with injury history. The Broncos look like they are filling their needs internally and, it seems, like no other team has desperately sought the big nose tackle. In a league where big men who can anchor, create penetration and be disruptive are in limited supply, you would think his phone would be ringing off the hook.
Being out of shape, unless do to some lower body injury, will be a big red flag for this Browns organization. Play Like a Brown is not just a saying but an expectation. The Browns have made it clear they want players who eat and sleep football, not players who eat and sleep a lot. If the Browns get a visit from Knighton, expect that his condition will be a big issue.

The Browns have the option to address their need with other players that have risk like B.J. Raji and Kenrick Ellis or in the NFL Draft where there seems to be a ton of options. The Browns won’t just spend money to spend money.
While Knighton is talented, his dedication to football is a concern. Did he just assume teams would be lined up to give him money and didn’t take care of himself? Is there an injury that has kept him from working out? We may find out soon what that Knighton value really is.
Do you think Terrance Knighton’s value will drop in range with how the Browns value him?
