The Cleveland Browns could be looking to upgrade their offensive line in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft. D.J. Humphries from the University of Florida is rated as the 49th overall prospect by CBS Sports and is ranked as the 7th best tackle in the 2015 NFL Draft. Humphries is an interesting prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft, that according to Fowler is lacking a clear-cut top-five pick out of the tackle class, and Humphries has the upside that may tempt a few teams come April 30th.

According to Jeremy Fowler, ESPN Cleveland Browns reporter:  The Cleveland Browns visited D.J. Humphries and will be on hand to watch him do field drill during the Florida Gator Pro Day at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville.

At 6-foot-5, 307 pounds, Humphries has the overall size and frame that makes him a perfect match for teams looking to make upgrades in the trenches. Humphries also had the combine stats to go along with the increased attention, 5.13-second 40 yard dash, 26 Reps of 225 pounds, 4.64 20 yard dash, and a 7.87 Three Cone Drill. Humphries played 29 career games at the University of Florida and started 19 games for the Gators. In 2014, Humphries played in 66.9 percent of the Gator’s offensive snaps, missing two games due to injury.

If the Browns decide to target a offensive tackle it will likely be to compete with Mitchell Schwartz and Michael Bowie for the starting position on the right side of the line. Schwartz is a reoccurring name that is on the tongue of every Browns fan and it’s for good reason. Schwartz did a lackluster job in 2014 giving up 7 sacks, 3 QB hits, and 12 QB hurries on the right side of the offensive line. In 2014 the Browns offensive line suffered some major injuries to key player and it exposed their lack of depth along the line. Due to the depth issues many national pundits have the offensive line listed as a need for the Browns to address via the draft.

Humphries has a lot of upside, but he is not without his critics, one key observation is despite a second consecutive injury-shortened season he decided to declare for the draft. The NFL Draft Advisory Board made the recommendation to Humphries to remain at Florida, Humphries elected to forgo his final season of eligibility, leaving Florida with just 19 career starts. The advisory board, which is comprised of scouts and NFL front-office personnel, was assembled to avoid situations like last year’s where a large number of underclassmen declared for the draft, then were left without a team. Despite the concerns NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, lists Humphries as his top tackle. Many national pundits expect him to be selected in the late first round, or early second round at worst.
