The Cleveland Browns could be looking to make upgrade and depth to their pass rush in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft. Andrew Hudson from the University of Washington is a defensive end prospect that many Browns fans may not know do to the overwhelming attention that other Huskies like nose tackle Danny Shelton, linebackers Shaq Thompson and Hau’oli Kikaha, and cornerback Marcus Peters have received from the media.
According to Aaron Wilson, Ravens Insider: Hudson met with the Browns today and was slated to meet with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins next.
At 6’3”, 246 pounds, Hudson, native of Redlands, California, may look undersized for his position, but there’s no doubt he makes a big impact on the field. Hudson in the Huskies defense racked up an impressive 12.5 sacks in 13 games on his way to being named Honorable Mention All-Pac-12, and helping Washington finish second in the nation in sacks with 52. Hudson has the overall size and frame that makes him a perfect match for teams that play a 4-3 defense (defensive end) and teams that play a 3-4 (outside linebacker). In his senior season for the Huskies Hudson played in 13 games and accumulated 77 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks. It’s also worth noting that Hudson finished his collegiate career with 22.5 sacks, so he can consistently get to the opposing quarterback. Although Hudson is gifted many national pundits don’t see his number being called on draft day, he was even snubbed by the NFL and wasn’t invited to the Scouting combine. Hudson is a classic Ray Farmer prospect because he is thus far flying under the radar and could very well be an undrafted free agent. Hudson is raw but does have the skills to compete at the next level, even if it’s not as an immediate starter. I get the sense though based on the attention Hudson is getting from not only the Browns but from other NFL teams that there is more to Hudson. Hudson is said to have put together an impressive workout at Washington’s pro day which was attended by an estimated 50 executives, scouts, coaches and some big name General managers to include: Trent Baalke (San Francisco), Scot McCloughan (Washington) and John Schneider (Seattle). With all that attention on the other big names at Washington it may help explain all the increased attention for Hudson.

With the loss of Jabaal Sheard in free agency the Browns are thin at the position thin behind Paul Kruger and Barkevious Mingo, and they look like they are going to address the pass rush via the draft. If other needs become pressing and the Browns need depth Hudson could be an option that the Browns call late in the draft or bring in to Berea post-draft to compete and sign for depth.
