Speedster Shane Wynn Working Out for Browns
The Cleveland Browns could be serious about adding some speed to their team. Shane Wynn, Indiana Hoosiers speedster, reportedly will be working out for the team this week:
That is some blazing speed. We are not sure if IU’s track is considered a “fast track” like Ohio State’s but that time is still impressive. Wynn ran a 4.34 at the Combine.
Wynn is a smaller player, 5’7″, but was very productive in college. He is in the Top 10 in many categories in Hoosier’s history. He has rarely played with any decent QB talent but still registered 56 catches for over 700 yards and 3 TDs last year. The two years prior he had 11 and 6 TDs.
Wynn is also productive at returning kicks. His freshman year he had over 1,000 yards in kickoff return yardage. The last two seasons he added punt returning to his resume. Because he was so important to the offense, he was only used to return 24 kicks last year but has the speed and vision to do that at the next level.
For the Browns Wynn could play a variety of roles. He would join Taylor Gabriel and Andrew Hawkins as smaller receivers. Gabriel and Wynn could both return punts and kicks while Wynn could also be used out of the backfield in creative formations like Percy Harvin and Randall Cobb. Wynn is not at their level but could be a dynamic playmaker.
The Glenville, Oh native played well against the Buckeyes in 2013. Here is the DraftBreakdown film from that game, skip to 50 seconds, 1:50, 3:00, 5:55, and 6:28 for Wynn plays. The rest of the tape shows a willing blocker and terrible QB play from IU’s two QBs:

Wynn is likely a late round pick, somewhere in Day 3. Teams will be intrigued by his speed and ability in the open field. The video above shows good route running, solid hands and the ability to dance his way open.
The Browns, with Gabriel and Hawkins, may not value him as high but their need for a returner is pretty big. With extra picks in this draft, getting a speed guy who can contribute right away on Special Teams seems like a solid addition. The Browns haven’t seemed to value size at the WR spot with Ray Farmer and Mike Pettine in charge.
Would you spend on pick on Shane Wynn to add his speed and return skills?
