WR Jaelen Strong to Visit the Browns
The Cleveland Browns list of players that they are bringing in for pre-Draft visits is growing. Jaelen Strong, WR out of Arizona State, is reportedly coming in for a visit. He either is visiting next Monday or already visited, Adam Caplan’s tweet is not clear:
Strong has plenty of people who think he will be the next big, strong over the middle kind of receiver in the league. Others do not think he has the receiving skills that will translate at the next level. An Anquan Boldin type player seems to be the high end of most evaluations.
Strong ran a 4.44 forty yard dash with a 42 inch vertical leap. He stands at 6’2″ and 217 pounds. He has the physical talent to really make an impact. Putting it together on the field is questioned. Questions linger about how he catches the ball, more body than hands, and his ability to create separation even with those physical talents.
He put up good numbers in his two seasons with the Sun Devils. He had 75 and 82 catches with over 1,100 yards each year. He totaled 17 touchdowns and had a solid average of over 14 yards per reception.
Strong would likely be in the conversation for the 4th receiver off the board in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Browns could have interest in him at #19 or could look to trade up from the 2nd round to get a 3rd 1st Round pick if Strong falls. With the depth at the position in this year’s draft, the difference between Strong at 19 and receivers likely available at 43 is not great.
We would be surprised if the Browns drafted Strong at 19 but not shocked. They have made a number of visits with receivers and we expect them to make WR a selection in the first 2 rounds, barring some type of trade up that costs them a number of picks.

Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline were signed in the off-season. Their additions should do little to change the Browns plans. Bowe and Hartline, along with Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel, will give a rookie receiver time to develop. The NFL Draft should be used to develop a roster for years to come. Drafting Strong, or another WR, would help develop the Browns future.
