Report: Marcus Mariota Not a Browns Target

The Cleveland Browns have been expected to target Marcus Mariota in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Browns are not reportedly sold on Johnny Manziel‘s ability to be the Franchise Guy in the future. GM Ray Farmer was said to have interest in Mariota last year, and may have selected him early had he come out. Instead Farmer ended up with Manziel, Justin Gilbert and extra 1st and 4th round picks this year coming out of the 1st Round last year.

With two 1st Round picks again this year, nothing guaranteed with Manziel and a Heisman Trophy winning season from Mariota, targeting the Oregon QB again this year seems to make sense. Tonight a new report is out that the Browns are not in on Mariota but are looking at other QBs:

Obviously a report like this brings up the question about the one making the report. Here are stories that we know Allbright has broken this off-season:

You get the picture, he has been solid all year.

Obviously those who have been following DPD all off-season long know that this writer is not happy with this news. I believe that Mariota could be amazing if given a year to develop. Not drafting a possible Franchise level QB could be a mistake.

This report could mean that the Browns have taken themselves out of the running for Mariota based on the price tag. It is possible that the Titans, Redskins or Jets have made it clear what they would expect in a trade up and the Browns have decided to move on. Perhaps, if the price comes down, the Browns will once again have interest.

Allbright’s report says that the Browns are interested in other QBs. We have heard Bryce Petty, Brett Hundley and other QBs in this Draft. Most analysts do not believe there is another QB outside of Mariota and Jameis Winston. Not just in one season but ever. The belief of many is that none of the other QBs will be able to start ever in the NFL.

What do you think of this new Browns, Marcus Mariota report?
