Report: Browns to meet with QB Trevor Siemian

The Cleveland Browns always seem to be linked to several quarterbacks every draft season, and this draft season is no different. The latest quarterback to be linked to the Browns is Northwestern’s Trevor Siemian.  Siemian is a bit of an unknown, and many may not have never heard of him due to being a low key draft prospect. He only started 14 games at Northwestern and is coming off a torn ACL that he suffered back in November.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:  The Browns are bringing in Northwestern QB Trevor Siemian for a visit on Sunday & Monday.

At 6’3”, 220 pounds, Siemian is still recovering from the torn ACL which abruptly ended his redshirt senior season after starting the first 11 games but he threw 44 scripted passes on his April 10th pro day in a workout attended by scouts and coaches representing the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans. Siemian played in a spread offense at Northwestern and totaled 5,931 yards during his time there which ranks fourth is school history. He played in a spread offense at Northwestern, so there are questions about whether or not he can play under center. Siemian’s overall ability to read a defense that include pre-snap, and locating secondary receivers will be a key to his NFL success at getting an opportunity in the NFL.

Siemian is an interesting prospect for the Browns because he most likely is a late round/undrafted option. The quarterback position we can all agree is up in the air and the Browns could choose to select someone in the 1st round, but they have other needs on the roster. Plus the Browns have the potential to land a top flight receiver like Amari Cooper, Kevin White or DeVante Parker with the 12th overall pick, and of course they could land an impact defensive player in the 12 to 19 range like Washington’s Danny Shelton. So it’s highly likely that the quarterback position is on the back burner.  The Browns organization is doing its due diligence until the quarterback position is locked in for the long-term, and until then they will actively evaluate every talent on the board.  Siemian is a great player that fits the mold as a development type player that has high upside and the Browns could get him late or actively try to bring him to Cleveland post-draft.
