2. The Running Game

I can’t really single-out one running back in this backfield, because we still have no idea how this situation will unfold. Isaiah Crowell seems like the front-runner to be the starter, but this could easily be a running back by committee situation, where being a “starter” means nothing but your name being placed first on the depth chart.

This group was awful in week one of the preseason. Mustering only 45 yards on 19 carries, with their leading rusher actually being Manziel, with 14 yards. I understand that left tackle Joe Thomas was out, but there is no excuse for what we saw last week.

The 2015 season relies a whole lot on the production of the run game. If last week’s performance is repeated, I wouldn’t be surprise if the team began looking into the services of Pierre Thomas, Ray Rice, or Ahmad Bradshaw.

They are already taking a huge risk this year believing in their younger players to carry the load at tailback, and this game could be the difference in them going forward with this current group, or scrapping that idea and going outside of the organization for help.
